Freaks & Gays Magazine

Self-published DIY magazine of curated artwork for queer creatives of any medium.

Freaks and Gays Magazine (lovingly referred to as F.A.G. MAG) is a curated DIY publication focused on featuring queer artists, writers, and creatives as an outlet for sharing work, ideas, messages, and more. This is the first edition of FAG MAG, and I am still working out the kinks (pun intended) so deadlines/dates may change. Please read all guidelines and FAQs before submitting your work to be featured.

Volume Zero: Open to Submissions NOW!!!

Volume Zero: Untitled is an homage to the unfinished or untitled works we all carry with us. As a professional procrastinator, F.A.G. MAG still feels unfinished to me. As precious as we hold our works in progress, they should be celebrated and shown off just as much as we show off finished works. Volume Zero is open to all submissions of either unfinished or untitled works that need a little bit of appreciation. You are invited to share the unpolished, incomplete projects you either forgot about or love too much to consider it finished. Please read all submission guidelines & info before submitting!

F.A.G. MAG FAQs

F.A.G. MAG FAQs

Who can apply?

Any creative who identifies as LGBTQIA+ with work that can be translated to a visual, print medium. You must be over the age of 18 to apply.

Does applying automatically grant me a spot?

Applications will be reviewed and accepted or rejected based on reaching the requirements, how well the submission fits the theme, and what there is space for. If you are not accepted, you are encouraged to reapply to future calls for works.

What’s the publishing schedule?

Volume Zero’s submission deadline is May 31st, 2026. The finished design and publication date will be TBD. Updates to this schedule will be published on social media. Finished copies will be sent out immediately after completion. For more updates on the process, follow F.A.G. MAG’s social media accounts.

How much will it cost?

Costs are still being calculated, but there will be a sliding scale payment model in an effort to keep copies as accessible as possible.

Do submissions have to specifically be lgbt related?

Submissions do not have to be directly LGBT+ related, but they must follow the volume’s themes and guidelines.

What sizing/ratio does my submission need to be?

All submissions must fit on either a 4.62" x 7.34" (vertical, one page) or 10.25" x 7.34" (horizontal, full spread) layout. If you are unsure if your submission will fit these ratios, it is a good idea to test the layout before submitting. One-page submissions are encouraged, as it means more artists can be accepted and featured, but full spreads are still accepted and allowed.

Can I submit in color?

While color submissions won’t be automatically rejected, Volume Zero will be printed in black and white. In order to ensure your submission prints as you intend it to, it is recommended to convert it to black and white before submitting.

Does anyone get paid for submissions?

I believe artists should be paid for their work, but in an effort to keep F.A.G. MAG as accessible as possible, as of now featured individuals will receive a free copy of the magazine and, if promotion permission is checked yes via their application, will be featured on socials for promotional materials. Future opportunities may be paid.

Is there an application fee?

There is no submission or application fee for Volume Zero of F.A.G. MAG.
